JIM - JOB IMPORT FILE SPECIFICATION BY INSMART
JIM is a CSV text file format that allows manufacturing data to be transferred to a roll former.
The file format supports: items that are cut to length with in-line punching,
spray or label printing, job instruction text, sorting codes and other relevant text.
Contrary to urban legend, the specification was created by Insmart in 2003 and not by
some mysterious person called "Jim".
File transfers of JIM production data to Insmart roll former control systems can be
performed over a network or by by using a USB flash drive.
The insmart JIM file format may be freely used subject to these conditions.
JIM VALIDATION TOOL
ValidateJim.exe is a Windows software tool developed by Insmart that allows a developer to
confirm JIM files are being created properly and will be accepted by Insmart
controllers. The software will read a JIM file and display the manufacturing data and
detailed messages (if any) regarding any problems that were detected.
Once installed simply open a JIM file and select the "Validate" option. Error messages are
displayed in the Results message display and itemised details for the production data
is displayed on the Review imported data tab.
DEVELOPMENT KIT DOWNLOAD
The JIM development kit is a zip archive file containing a help file, the validation software tool and some sample JIM files.
